PostSubject: Shaman guide!   Sat Nov 14, 2009 4:38 am

Hi all, im here to tell you something about this great versatile class called Shaman.
There are 3 very different talent builds for shaman and Ill go all of them trough.

Shaman spells rely on nature, their healing spells and most of their offensive spells. They also use fire and frost.
At first shaman was playable class for Horde only, tauren, troll and orc. In The Burning Crusade shamans were introduced to Alliance too for Draenei.

Shamans are popular in raids because of their raid buffing abilities. They have great amount of different totems, some of them effect whole raid and some only the group shaman is in.
On the downside, totems have limited range of 30 yards. There is totems for caster haste, melee haste, spellpower, manaregen, strenght/agi and even resists for example.
But the most praised ability must be Bloodlust! (On allies its called Heroism) Its 40 seconds long buff which provides 30% casting, melee and ranged speed to whole raid!
It has 5 minutes cooldown but it also gives sated for 10 minutes, then people cant be affected by Bloodlust again. Dying will clear this debuff. Shamans are also used as wipe recovery because
of their reincarnation spell. They can ress themselves up once in an hour or every 40 mins if they have talents for it. It consumes ankh reagent unless it has been glyphed. (Uses a minor)
Shaman can also be used in interrupts, also ranged! Shamans interrupts were with earth shock earlier, but now interrupt spell is Windshear which also lowers the threat on target.

ELEMENTAL:

A caster dps spec. This spec is closest to my heart, leveled from 65-80 as ele. Also playing Elemental in level cap. Use flametongue weapon enchant.

Totems: Totem of Wrath, Wrath of air, manaspring totem.
If you have paladin buffing bow, use healing stream. And from earth totems you should use Strenght of earth to buff melee dps, or if you have dk in raid you can use stoneskin. And if fight requires it like Onyxia and Auriya for example, use tremor totem. It only works on your group, not the raid. Magma totem for aoe damage.

Rotation: Maybe most important thing to remember, keep flame shock on target! It will guarantee your lava burst to be critical hit. And cast lavaburst whenever its off cooldown. Otherwise spam lightning bolt and chain lightning. The more haste you get, more you will be focusing on lightning bolt instead of chain lightning. Also in longer fights you might wanna drop chain lightning of your rotation to save mana. And pop thunderstorm once in a while to regain mana. When you are moving and there is flameshock on target already you might wanna throw a frost shock, but watch out because it makes high threat. Use flame tongue weapon as weapon buff and keep water shield up for manaregen.

Stats: 14% hit rating with talents. After that Spell power, Haste, Crit, Int. (with boomkins improved fairie fire or shadow priest you need 289 hit rating)

ENHANCEMENT:

A melee dps spec. On this one my experience is limited on level 80. Only heroic instance experience. Used to level up until 60. On weapons you should use Windufury weapon in mainhand an Flametongue in offhand. Flametongue since it gives constant boost to sp and more dmg to lavalash. Overall you should aim for slow weapons with big damage in both hands.

Totems: Strenght of earth, Flametongue, Windfury, manaspring. (unless bow). Magma totem for aoe damage.

Rotation: Enhanchement wont have "rotation" they have priorities, all depends on Maelstrom procs. Always use it to cast lightning bolt in single target, if there are multiple targets you can use chain lightning. NEVER STOP TO CAST! Always use instant abilities, so you can forget lavaburst too. Keep flame shock on target, use stormstrike whenever its off cooldown and hit earthshock after it if Maelstrom havent reached
it full stacks yet. Use lava lash when others are in cooldown and Maelstrom isn't fully stacked. Refresh lightning shield when low on orbs.

Stats: You need 17% spell hit (14% with boomkin who has imp fairie fire or shadow priest in raid). Attack from behind mobs, then you need 26 expertise so your attacks cant be dodged.
After these are capped go for AP, Haste, Crit, Agi, Armour Penetration.

RESTORATION:

A healing spec. Im not yet big fan of shammy healing, done only heroics, Naxxramas and Onyxia as healer. Im so used to hots with druid so I get the feeling im always late with heals that have long cast. Use Earthliving weapon enchant.

Totems: Stoneskin/Strenght of earth, manaspring (mana tide if you or another caster gets low on mana), Flametongue, Wrath of Air.

How to heal: Always keep earth shield on tank. Use lesser healing wave on tank and raid, chain heal to heal aoe damage, you can use yourself as a link if it seems that chain heal wont reach enough people. Also riptide is important because it gives buffs to your other heals. And use it to quickly regain someones hp who goes low. Using chain healon target that has riptide hot, will remove the healing over time effect.Healing wave should be used when you can predict a big hit to tank, dont spam it. If you have specced tidal force, use it when you can predict big damage coming. Dont waste it! And natures swiftness should be used for quick saves! Keep watershield buffed on yourself.

Stats: SP (not maybe for gemming), haste, crit, mp5, int. Replace haste with mp5 if you have mana problems.

These specs are made with assumption that you are the only shaman in 10 man raid. And Im not saying these are the best specs. But these are guides and you can/SHOULD spec like you feel the need.
Like more mana in enha, maybe some pushback reduction in ele and things like that. Feel free to disagree, correct me or add things. Or just ask if something troubles you =]

I forgot to mention that I also use earthbind totem as ele in fights like Thorim and Freya to cc adds and put a magma totem in there too!

i love that my class leader was the first to post in here, i think what you have done is good as i think shaman can sometimes be a missunderstood class, i think it might be a good idea to make a list of other classes buffs that are useful to us, so everyone knows what we need. even i forget bout them sometimes Smile

PostSubject: Nice idea   Mon Nov 16, 2009 3:13 am

Hey thanks for the idea! =)

From Paladin to:

Elemental - BoK, BoW
Enhacement - BoM, BoK (bow if there is third pala)
Restoration - BoK, BoW

Mages:

Arcane Brilliance
Focus magic (arcane talent)

Druids:

Mark of the wild

Death Knights:

Horn of Winter (to enha)
Hysteria (to enha again)

Warlocks:

Fel Intelligence (from Felhunter)
Blood Pact (from Imp)

Warriors:

Battleshout (to enha)
Commanding Shout

Priests:

Fortitude
POWER INFUSION!!! (yeah requires disc spec, so tell Ivan to respec!)

And buffs similar to shammy totems wont stack, like horn of winter with strenght of earth. So when you have dk in raid. you can use another totem. And bow wont stack with Manaspring.
And also one thing some might wonder, Flametongue and Totem of wrath wont stack. So if there is enha and ele in group, enha should use magmatotem / fire elemental.
Tell me if I forgot something =]
